Small and medium-sized businesses can reduce safety-related risks and costs through the Safety and Health Achievement Program (SHARP), an initiative from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). SHARP recognizes and rewards organizations that have used the OSHA On-Site Consultation Program through their state department of labor. The benefits include deferrals from OSHA or state plan programmed inspections for the period that the SHARP designation is valid.

CHCS Community Hospital Onaga, part of Kansas’ Community Healthcare System (CHCS), is a SHARP-designated facility that is taking a proactive approach to safety. According to Michael Bomberger, Director of Business Development and Special Projects there, “our safety and health program encourages organizational anticipatory critical thinking, engineering out accidents before they happen.” The benefits include a reduced risk of employee injury and lower workers’ compensation costs.

EHS Risk Management recommends a proactive approach to safety and can help eligible companies to become SHARP-designated. The EHS Risk Manager is a business value proposition that reduces costs and supports your company’s performance. The EHS Portal provides a real-time process for managing and implementing your company’s policies and procedures.
