OSHA has cited a multi-state company that implemented a comprehensive safety program at its Pennsylvania headquarters with failing to protect workers at a New Jersey facility. The employer now faces $573,681 in penalties because of 5 willful, 15 serious, and 1 other-than-serious violations at its South Jersey location.
The willful citations involve failing to:
- provide training on respirator use
- develop and implement a written hazard communication program
- maintain safety data sheets on site
- train employees about chemical hazards
- provide fall protection and machine guarding
OSHA also cited the employer for failing to train and certify forklift operators, ensure the proper use of power tools, and keep emergency exits unobstructed. “Prioritizing production over worker safety is never acceptable,” explained OSHA Area Director Paul Dixon-Roderick, “and can lead to serious injuries or worse”.
